My Artistic Journey and Love for Acrylics
I am so lucky to be living so close to the countryside and sea, in Purbrook, Hampshire and stay in Turkey at least twice a year. So much of my inspiration to paint sunsets, wildlife and seascapes are because of my lifestyle.
I have always been creative, making novelty cakes, sugarpaste flowers, and using food colourings, oils and watercolours. But my busy career as a Lecturer and Learning Manager, meant I could not pursue my art career until I retired in 2018.
Art classes helped me to quickly master new techniques, and my love for acrylics blossomed. During 2020, I noticed many dog walkers in my area, and started marketing for commissions. I was delighted to get so many recommendations and repeat business from happy customers. Some had lost their beloved pet, others wanted a painting for a special present. I love the way I can make someone extremely happy through my art. I also love to paint in a relaxed way, so seascapes take me to another level as I let the paint do the work with the blending. Equally, I enjoy painting landscape scenes of beautiful countryside, particularly where there is a contrast of light and dark, which I try to capture.
As a Member of Portsmouth Art Group I started to enter a few of my paintings and gained a merit for the snow scene shown in my Commissions section. I was successful in selling one of my paintings in Southern Nature Art exhibition. As well as sales, I have donated to charity. My latest donation helped to raise £450 to Pancreatic Cancer Charity.

Defining the "Sue's Fineart" style
I paint with my heart, and love adding the detail to a painting. When painting animals or pets, I often start with the eyes, aiming to reach into their very soul at the start of the process.
I describe my overall style as versatile, with a blend of realism, especially with portraits, contrasting with the contemporary look depicted in beautiful sunsets, skies, seascapes and abstracts. A 'Sue's Fineart' piece is truly mine because I infuse a sense of atmosphere with the interplay of lights and darks, often creating an almost 3D effect.
The inspirations behind my bespoke creations
My unique bespoke paintings are often sparked by cherished memories and profound connections. I love to paint a variety of portraits and landscapes and achieve a piece of artwork that others will enjoy for many years to come.
